As I have been reading and learning more and more about the ever-changing world of social media and online marketing, I have come up the three R's. These principles are beneficial to check on any content that you put out to make sure that the content will create a buzz throughout your community.
Relevant, reliable, and refreshing are the three rules that I follow when generating content for the world to experience. It doesn't matter if it is a designed folder or a blog post, making sure that the content is utilizing all three of the R's will make for some engaging and highly reposted work.
Relevant. This one is pretty obvious. Generating content that relates to your audience is by far the most important thing to remember. There is really no point in producing materials about water bottles when you are a company that produces traffic cones. Keeping up with the trends of your market is also vitally important, but we will get to that when we touch on refreshing. So make sure to know your audience and target your materials toward them.
Reliable. With the massive size of the internet and all of the content that is on there, it can seem hard to find accurate and up to date information. Currently there is a pretty big push for user generated content. Television networks like Current and G4 thrive on user generated content. This is good, but that also means that people are able to create work that may or may not be true. Both TV stations employ people to research the content that they are overloaded with to ensure that they are producing reliable information. So make sure that everything you produce is accurate and you are ready to stand behind it.
Refreshing. This is the fun part of generating content. Everything that you put out should be entertaining and enlighten your audience. This information should be easy to read and at the front end of current trends. Begin to subscribe to blogs and RSS feeds of some of the leaders in your market if you have not already done so. The goal of refreshing content is to be new and exciting. Provide content to your audience that will satisfy their needs and they will begin to tell their friends about you and , in turn, this will begin to generate more and more traffic to your website.
By utilizing these three R's you will provide information that is exactly what your industry has been starving to receive. Be resourceful and break away from the same old thing. It is ok to be creative no matter what industry you are in!
